Teachers' concerns over diplomas will worry busine - 06/05/2008
Commenting on the concerns of the National Association of Head Teachers over their ability to deliver the government's 14-19 diplomas, Nick Dines, spokesman for the British Chambers of Commerce, said:
"Employers have supported the principle behind diplomas because there is an obvious need for an education system that combines both academic and vocational learning. The diplomas need to be delivered to the highest possible standard and with a strong emphasis on future employability.
"The NAHT's fears over the ability to deliver diplomas are not the first emanating from the teaching community. This will simply add to the worries of businesses who have invested heavily in these qualifications being a success.
"The Government needs to fully prepare schools, colleges, pupils and teachers but they must also reassure employers that diplomas are not going to be worthless."
